l. Context
Tondo is a contemporary Italian restaurant and bar located in Saint Petersburg. Inspired by the aesthetics of Italy’s 1960s–70s, it offers a modern reinterpretation of classic Italian hospitality. The name “Tondo” (Italian for “round”) forms the core concept, visually echoed through emblematic shapes and design elements. The restaurant’s atmosphere blends nostalgic warmth with confident, clean aesthetics — from the vintage-inspired interior details to the distinctive identity system.

ll. Assignment
To develop a full-scale visual identity system for the restaurant, including a custom logotype, symbol set, packaging, menus, uniforms, and decor elements. The identity had to convey key values: warmth, authenticity, connection to Italian heritage, and modernity. It was crucial to achieve a balance between nostalgic references and contemporary execution, creating a brand image that feels both timeless and fresh.

lll. Design Direction
The Tondo identity system is built around bold, custom-drawn letterforms referencing mid-20th-century Italian signage. Symmetrical compositions, geometric rhythm, and typographic contrast form the backbone of the visual language. Two signature brand symbols — a radial emblem and a stylized sun icon — reinforce the brand’s recognizable character across various touchpoints, from packaging to digital applications. A rich color palette of red, green, and beige connects the visual style to Italian gastronomy and interior elements. The overall system is designed to scale seamlessly across print, space, and digital surfaces, combining tactile techniques like die-cuts and debossing with clean, adaptive layouts that celebrate Italian charm in a contemporary format.
